THE DASH
I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the date on the tombstone from the beginning, until the end. He
noted that first came the date of birth; the second date, he noted with tears.
But he said that what matters most of all, was the dash between the
years.
That "dash" represented all the time spent alive on the face of
the earth. Now only the loved ones left behind knew what that little line was
worth. For it matters not how much we own, the cars, the house, the cash. What
really matters is how we live and love and how we spend our "dash"!
So
think about this long and hard, are there things you'd like to change? For you
never know how much time is left, you could be mid range of the "dash". Should
you be less quick to anger and show appreciation more?
Should you love
the people in your life, like you've never loved before? Should you treat others
with more respect and more often wear a smile? Remember that your special "dash"
may only last a little while.
Enjoy your day!

Paying it forward: The Recipient!
I recently joined this group (Paying it Forward) and have enjoyed it so much. I find myself looking for ways to do exactly that. What a great feeling it is to be sitting in my office, looking out my window into the city, and imagining what good I can do today. Best challenge ever.
With that said, I was at the receiving end of a Paying it Forward yesterday. We had recently picked up a rescue dog at the shelter. Just a big ole fluffy white dog…named Bleu. We have only had him for two weeks and he is acclimating well, but not living here long enough to know his way around the neighborhood. He got out the front door yesterday and sprinted after a squirrel and he was gone! We were so upset, searched for hours, put up signs, called all neighbors in all directions. (We live in a very rural area, lots of woods, fields, acres). The key here, we are catching a plane and had to leave for the airport! We had to leave, not knowing where Bleu was, it was very upsetting to all of us.
My daughter’s 20 year old friend who lives across the street assured us he WOULD find Bleu for us and he wouldn’t stop looking until he found him. He kept us in touch via text messages all day as to updates, where he had looked, and status of search. All the time capitalizing the word “WOULD” every time he talked about finding him.
When our plane landed, we had a text from this young man, he found Bleu, fed him, gave him water and re-united him with Max. (Our other dog) He said Bleu was just walking down the middle of the road a couple miles from home, headed towards our house. He just opened his car door and he jumped right in! (I’m going to have to work on those “getting in the car with strangers” skills).
I’m so grateful to this young man, (who is also going into the Marines next month). Pictures of Bleu to come later!!!

Downtown Kingsport
Downtown Kingsport Tennessee is an older city and has so much character. The buildings are older, brick, historic looking. There is an area called "Church Circle" where the whole "circle" surrounds a tree filled boulevard with several Churches standing proudly on the roads creating the circle. It's breathtaking.
The downtown Kingsport area has many shops, restaurants and everything is in walking distance. It's a great walking city.
Kingsport also has it's part of the city where you will find a few old broken down buildings. I find that just as interesting as the lovely part of the city. Today I went to a game/comic book shop," DeWaynes World" that was sandwiched in between just one of these buildings. I had to go grab my camera.
